ASC-AGC National Student Competition

The Associated General Contractors of America (AGC) and the Associated Schools of Construction (ASC) have joined forces to form the Annual ASC-AGC National Student Competition (NSC). The NSC enables AGC and ASC-affiliated undergraduate construction students to participate in scenarios that simulate the real-life process. The teams are judged on estimating, bidding, planning, scheduling, presentation skills, creativity, understanding of sound construction techniques, and thoughtful methodology. Each team can compete in one of three divisions: Commercial Building, Design-Build and Heavy-Civil. The 2008 National Student Competition will be held at The Flamingo Hotel in Las Vegas, NV March 9 - March 11, 2008 with competing teams from seven regions comprised of 6 students and 1 coach each.

Rules and Eligibility

Students from across the country first participate in their Regional Competition. Those that win their division at the region qualify for the National Student Competition. For more information, see the NSC Rules & Guidelines.

2008 NSC Divisions Rules & Schedules

Divisions are each assigned a problem designed by the Division Sponsors from real-life projects or project scenarios. Under no circumstances shall a problem be reused or be duplicated from any other competition, including the regional competitions or other industry competitions. Division Sponsors shall select judges that have not, in a three year period, judged a regional competition, develop judging criteria, and/or rules for their division.

National Student Competition Divisions

Terms and Conditions

Divisions may be modified, added or replaced, so long as both ASC and AGC mutually agree and these modifications meet the terms of the ASC/AGC NSC Agreement. Division Sponsors shall have had the experience of sponsoring a regional competition before being selected to sponsor a national competition problem.

Division Sponsors cannot sponsor a regional competition and a national competition in the same academic year. Exceptions to this rule must be by the mutual agreement of the ASC/AGC task force.

NSC Sponsorship Opportunities

ASC-AGC has opened new sponsorship opportunities for non-contractor companies. Becoming an NSC Sponsor is a great opportunity to encourage our top construction students and support the future leaders of this growing industry.

2008 NSC Winners

The ASC-AGC Task Force presents the winning team of each division with a gift for the coach and each student. The sponsoring companies of each division are then at liberty to award prizes as they deem fit. Monetary awards for the schools are usually given, along with trophies for the school and each member of the winning team. Congratulations to the 2008 NSC winners!
