Construction Project Manager Course

Since 1990, the Construction Project Manager Course has combined quality instruction from industry leaders, with participants’ shared knowledge and experiences in order to identify concepts and best practices and build skills and strategies.

The 15 critical areas of project management covered in this course include: project planning, safety management, construction productivity, subcontractor/vendor management, CPM scheduling, claims management, legal issues/contract clauses, construction ethics, cost control, project record keeping, communications, leadership/human resource issues, time management, problem solving and decisions making, and blending family and work.

Learning Objectives

Participants will:

  • Identify the connection between the pre-planning process and the bottom line,
  • Demonstrate an effective model for pre-planning,
  • Discuss techniques for increasing safety measures and building a culture of safety on the job site,
  • Analyze scientific models to better measure, predict, and improve job site productivity,
  • Develop a process for the evaluation and selection of subcontractor/vendor services and material and equipment purchases,
  • Illustrate the many uses and advantages of CPM scheduling,
  • Illustrate successful techniques for minimizing disputes through effective document control,
  • Further develop their understanding of construction ethics through case studies and group presentations,
  • Pin point frequently overlooked situations in which caution is necessary to avoid legal problems,
  • Demonstrate techniques for effective oral and written communications,
  • Discuss human resource issues and the criteria for valuable employee evaluations,
  • Demonstrate effective methods to achieve successful negotiations, and
  • Recognize the different communication styles, through personal assessments, and learn to build better listening and communication techniques both at work and at home.

Participant Profile

Participants must have a minimum of six years project management experience, or a BS or BA in construction management or a related field and a minimum of two years of project management experience.

Continuing Education Notice

The Associated General Contractors of America (AGC) has been approved as an Authorized Provider by the International Association for Continuing Education and Training (IACET), 8405 Greensboro Drive, Suite 800, McLean, VA 22102-5120. In obtaining this approval, AGC has demonstrated that it complies with the ANSI/IACET Standards which are widely recognized as standards of good practice internationally. As a result of their Authorized Provider membership status, AGC is authorized to offer IACET CEUs for its programs that qualify under the ANSI/IACET Standards. AGC has awarded 4.2 CEUs to participants who successfully complete this program. Over 400 agencies, state boards and other organizations recognize the IACET CEU.

Participants who wish to earn CEUs for this program are expected to arrive on time, attend the program from start to finish, complete the evaluation and complete the post-program online exam with a score of 75% or greater.

The all inclusive tuition for AGC members is $3,895 and for non-members tuition is $4,675. This fee covers hotel accommodations and all meals for each day of the program and instructional materials. AGC of America also handles the booking of participants’ hotel rooms. Checks are the only acceptable form of payment.

Participants are responsible for securing their own flights and ground transportation. Due to the intensive nature of this course, the presence of spouses or guests is not permitted.

Industry Approval

AGC's Construction Project Manager Course is approved by the American Institute of Constructors (AIC) to offer Continuing Professional Development (CDP) Units.
