AGC's Project Delivery Systems for Construction defines Design-Build as:

a Project Delivery Method defined by the following characteristics:

  • Design and Construction contracts are combined (versus Design-Bid-Build and CM at-Risk, in which contracts are separate)
  • One entity is the single point of responsibility for both the design and construction
  • Can promote an interdisciplinary team approach to a project throughout project duration
