Emotional Intelligence in a COVID-19 Construction World

Description:

While traditionally construction has been seen dominated by alpha male competition, success in construction is increasingly determined by successful teamwork and cooperation internally with employees and externally with customers and stakeholders. And lately, with this forced disruption, the need for innovation and creativity are vital if we are to pivot and come out of this pandemic in a positive way.  The ability to innovate, to have emotional resilience and to work collaboratively are all a function of your emotional intelligence. This WebEd will provide assessment tools to help you determine your emotional intelligence profile and how they affect your current level of performance. You will learn proven techniques that will allow you to better assess your employee’s needs, early warning signs of stress, and concrete steps to help your employees to get back on track mentally and physically. 

In this WebEd, you will understand the basics of emotional intelligence and how it is defined, and how it relates to success or failure in the AEC Industry, especially with the COVID-19 Pandemic.

• Explain how Emotional intelligence affects every aspect of your life including mental and physical processes, your interactions with others, and your view of the world. 
• Demonstrate an understanding of the definition of Emotional intelligence and how to use this information in the current COVID-19 pandemic.  
• Identify how emotions affect your day-to-day interactions with others and your own mental and physical performance, health, and well-being as well as your ability to innovate during this forced disruption.

How to Connect Personally When Physically Distant: Make Teams Meetings More Effective, Engaging, and Entertaining

Description:

Are you stymied by this new way of working? Are your virtual meetings and communications boring and stale? Are you “zoomed out”? In this highly interactive meeting, Brent Darnell will walk you through how to set up your meetings and give you ideas and exercises that will keep your meetings and communications interactive, fun, meaningful and impactful. Using Applied Improvisation (using improvisation for learning and leadership) and gamification, Brent will walk you through step-by-step on how to run the best virtual meetings possible.

Brent Darnell

Brent Darnell is the pioneer in bringing emotional intelligence to the construction industry. He began teaching it in 1999 before the AEC industry knew they needed it. In 2012 he was awarded Engineering News Record’s top 25 newsmaker’s award for his record-breaking program that “transforms Alpha males into service focused leaders”. In 2017, he also won the volunteer of the year award for AGC Georgia for his work in training and development.

Brent is a third-generation construction guy. He grew up walking projects like the Plaza Tower in New Orleans with his Dad. He graduated with a mechanical engineering degree from Georgia Tech in 1981 and spent 18 years managing projects such as the Brooke Army Medical Center and housing for athletes in the Olympic Village in Atlanta. 

The impact of Brent's unique programs spans the globe to 20 countries from the US to places such as New York, Stockholm, Copenhagen, Oslo, Cape Town, Helsinki, Buenos Aires, Moscow, Prague, London, and as far away as Hong Kong.
