Local Chapter Among Top Charitable Contractors' Groups, Receives Second-Annual AGC in the Community Award
The Dallas, Texas-based TEXO was among five contractors' chapters nationwide to be awarded for their charitable efforts last year, the AGC Charities announced today. The group won the AGC in the Community Award for raising $40,000 for the Texas Scottish Rite Hospital and Happy Hills Farms, and for donating food, bikes and toys during last year's holiday season.
"Just because contractors do hard work doesn't mean they don't have soft hearts," said Tom Brown, chair of AGC Charities, which sponsors the awards program. "These awards highlight the role our industry plays in building better communities and better lives for neighbors and the needy."
Brown noted that the AGC in the Community Awards were established last year to recognize the outstanding charitable and philanthropic efforts of the association's 95 chapters. Winners are selected by the board members of AGC Charities, Inc, Brown added.
"The members of TEXO have generously given of their time and money to support these two charities," said the chapter's co-chairs, Gene Johnston and Lori Chung. "The organization and implementation of these fund raising activities are a labor of love for both of us and our many committee members."
The other four chapters awarded for their philanthropic activities were Associated Contractors of New Mexico for raising $100,000 for the Wounded Warriors program; the Arizona Builders Alliance for helping renovate Compass Behavior Health Center and the Mesa Association of Sports for the Disabled gymnasium; Master Builders of Iowa for helping run the 9 Homes in 9 Days project in Des Moines; and Georgia Branch AGC for its Operation Home Front work repairing a wounded veteran's home.
