Construction Industry Adds 14,000 New Jobs in April as Stimulus Work Finally Kicks Into Gear

New federal employment figures show the construction industry added 40,000 new jobs in March and April as the number of stimulus-funded projects underway continues to grow.  The numbers were even better on the nonresidential side, with the industry adding 24,600 jobs in April and 36,500 jobs in March. On a media call to discuss the latest figures, AGC's chief economist Ken Simonson told over 20 reporters that "the good news is the stimulus has stemmed the losses in construction employment for now; the bad news is the stimulus is temporary while the construction downturn will be protracted." Six AGC members, including president Ted Aadland, joined Ken on the call to share their stories. Click here for AGC's press release on the latest figures. Listen to the call here.
