First Regional AGC-ACCEE Workshop Held in Atlanta

AGC of America would like to thank the Georgia Branch AGC for hosting a successful workshop on Dec. 15, 2011, to help define the skills, knowledge abilities that college and university students will have upon graduation from construction management and construction technology programs accredited by the American Council for Construction Education (ACCE). Seven AGC members from Hardin Construction, Holder Construction, Manhattan Construction, New South Construction and Young Contractors/SE participated in the workshop, giving valuable industry perspective on what college and universities should be teaching students so that they graduate with the most relevant skills, knowledge and abilities that employers seek. There will be three additional workshops held in 2012 -Dallas on Feb. 8, hosted by TEXO; Milwaukee on April 25, hosted by AGC of Greater Milwaukee; and Phoenix on Feb. 21, hosted by the Arizona Builders’ Alliance and Arizona Chapter-AGC. Industry volunteers are needed for all upcoming sessions. We are seeking construction industry volunteer participants who either supervise recent graduates or have graduated from a construction program within the last 2-5 years. The goal is to collect a group of volunteers who understand the skills, knowledge, and abilities graduates should have obtained before starting professional employment in the construction industry. Please visit the AGC website for more information or register by emailing Liz Elvin at curriculum@agc.org.
