National Highway Work Zone Awareness Week

AGC annually participates in the National Work Zone Awareness Week to highlight the dangers to construction workers and motorists from not obeying speed limits and not being alert in highway construction work zones. This year’s National Work Zone Awareness Week is scheduled for April 22-28, 2012, with the theme “Don’t Barrel Through Work Zones.” AGC will also participate in a National event in St. Louis, Missouri on April 23, 2012. In addition, many AGC chapters schedule their own Work Zone Awareness events independently or in cooperation with their state DOTs. To get a better handle on the impact of vehicle crashes on AGC member work sites, the attached survey was prepared. Please take a few minutes to complete and submit the survey. AGC will be releasing the survey results as part of the Work Zone Awareness Week events. An example of what the AGC of South Dakota Chapter is doing:
  • The AGC of South Dakota H-H-U Chapter will be participating in Work Zone Awareness Week throughout the entire month of April through a state-wide 30-day billboard campaign. Billboards, displaying the national WZAW look and design, will be placed in various AGC members’ work zones throughout the state. The AGC member who is serving as the general on the road project, gets first rights at “sponsoring” the boards. The board will proudly display the AGC logo along with the general’s logo and any subs participating on the project that want to be a part of sponsoring the board (max of 5 logos). In addition, the South Dakota DOT logo will also be on each board, as they are participating by setting up a “media day” at the state capitol with South Dakota Governor, Dennis Daugaard.
