FHWA Announces Every Day Counts II Summit Schedule

The Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) has released a schedule for a series of Summits to be held this fall to promote implementation of its Every Day Counts II (EDC2) initiatives. EDC is a priority initiative championed by Federal Highway Administrator Victor Mendez to speed the delivery of transportation projects and accelerate the use of innovative technologies. FHWA is planning to roll-out EDC summits in two phases.  The focus of Phase I summits will be exclusively on shortening project delivery.  The content and discussion at these summits will include EDC II initiatives as well as MAP-21 provisions focused on shortening project delivery. The EDC II initiatives are as follows: Reduce Project Delivery Time: Planning and Environmental Linkages (Continuation), Programmatic Agreements with on emphasis on Corps of Engineers and Fish and Wildlife Service (Continuation), GIS Data-Sharing for Planning Purposes (New). Reduce Construction Time: Design-Build (Continuation), Construction Manager General Contractor (Continuation), Alternative Technical Concepts (New), Flexibilities in ROW (Continuation), 3D Modeling for Construction Means and Methods- Automated Machine Guidance (New), Intelligent Compaction (New), Accelerated Bridge Construction (Continuation). The second phase of EDC 2 summits will commence in spring of 2013.  Focus of the second phase will be initiatives not covered under phase I, including initiatives related to planning, safety, mobility, environment, and construction quality.  Phase II summits are planned as virtual conferences in a webinar format.
