The AGC Building Contractors Conference was held Sept. 12-15, 2012, in Charleston, S.C. with more than 150 participants.  Building construction contractors, construction project owners, design professionals, attorneys, suppliers and service suppliers came together to hear from an excellent line-up of industry experts focused on the Conference theme: “Make Your Firm a Top Performer: Learn the Industry’s Best Practices for Success.” Sessions included: “Marketing on a Shoestring Budget,” “The Initial Steps to Begin Implementation of Lean Construction,” “Learning Beyond the Classroom,” “Efficient Strategies for BIM Implementation in GC/CM Firms,” and “Why You Should Want a Cloud Over Your Jobsite.”  Attendees also heard from Mark Kohl about Walt Disney Imagineering’s VDC Summits and Mark Kenneday from the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences, who discussed the challenges in implementing lean at a public institution.  Attendees also enjoyed numerous networking opportunities including breakfasts, evening receptions, a keynote luncheon featuring Kelly Riggs from Vmax, and a golf tournament. Before the Conference began, AGC held the first three units of its Lean Construction Education Program (LCEP), including Unit 3: Lean Workstructuring for the first time.  Unit 1: Variation in Production Systems and Unit 2: Pull in Production are already available through AGC chapters and Unit 3 will be available later this year. The next AGC Building Contractors Conference will be held Oct. 16-19, 2013, at The Broadmoor in Colorado Springs, Colo.  For more information, please contact Mike Stark at starkm@agc.org.
