AGC Foundation Posts 2013 Faculty Internship Application

The AGC Education and Research Foundation will launch its Faculty Internship initiative in the summer of 2013 following two successful summers testing the program with interns from Purdue, the University of Oklahoma, and the Wentworth Institute of Technology.  AGC contractor partners Pepper Construction, JE Dunn Construction and Bowen Engineering Corporation hosted interns during the pilot phase of the program.  Faculty interested in applying for a paid professional internship during summer 2013 should visit the Foundation’s web site.  Faculty professional internships are designed to be three-way partnerships in which the faculty member's salary during the internship period is funded equally by the AGC, the faculty's home institution, and an AGC member contractor. On application, the faculty member must identify the specific skills and knowledge to be gained during the internship, identify an AGC construction firm or affiliated organization that will agree to provide the requested professional work experience, and obtain support from the faculty member’s institution. The selected faculty member(s) will document the internship experience in a post-internship report describing the experiences, learning outcomes and the value the internship will bring to his/her classroom. Participating in this program is an investment in the future of the construction industry, providing valuable and current professional experience that can be shared in the classroom. Professional internships also benefit the host company by providing quality temporary help on projects and if desired, feedback on management processes. The deadline for applications is Jan. 7, 2013. If applicants have questions after reviewing the application and brochure, please contact Director of AGC Education and Research Foundation Melinda Patrician at patricianm@agc.org or (703) 837-5342.
