The AGC Building Contractors Conference Shares Innovative Ways to Increase Your Firm’s Productivity

The AGC Building Contractors Conference was held Oct. 16-19, 2013, at The Broadmoor in Colorado Springs, Colo. and was a huge success. This year’s event brought together senior-level contractors, large project owners and other key industry stakeholders. The Conference’s theme was “Increasing Your Firm’s Productivity through Industry Innovations.” Sessions included: “Winning More for Less”, “Immigration is Just the Beginning - How Action and Inaction by Congress, Federal Agencies and the Courts Impact the Already Difficult Lives of Contractors”, “Increasing Productivity Through Technology with ROI in Mind”, “Increased Field Productivity Through Lean Safety Principles”, and “The Impact of Lean and IPD on Prefabrication and Modularization”. Sessions on October 18 were led by the AGC Public/Private Industry Advisory Council (PIAC), a committee that provides a direct line of communication between private and public owners and AGC of America. These sessions featured an economic overview and outlook presented by AGC Chief Economist Ken Simonson, a presentation on achieving energy reduction from Senior Research Engineer, Shanti Pless, LEED AP, of the National Renewable Energy Laboratory, and highlights of several strategies and trends driving the industry. Attendees also enjoyed numerous networking opportunities including breakfasts, evening receptions, a keynote luncheon featuring Dan Woolridge of APi Group, and a golf tournament. Before the Conference began, AGC held two preconference events including Lean Construction Education Program (LCEP), Unit 5: Lean Supply Chain and Assembly and the Basics of Business Development for the Construction Professional, a business development course co-hosted by SMPS. The next AGC Building Contractors Conference will be held Sept. 10-13, 2014, at the Omni in Austin, Texas.  For more information, please contact Mike Stark at starkm@agc.org or Sarah Gallegos at gallegoss@agc.org.
