2013 Outstanding Student Chapters Contest Winners

AGC is pleased to present the two winners of the 2013 Outstanding Student Chapter Contest. Winners receive framed certificates, cash prizes and will be asked to give a presentation on their winning project at the 2014 AGC Annual Convention. First Place: Iowa State University The Student Chapter won $1,500 for its Operation Dry Creek Road project in Jonesborough, Tennessee. The Project consisted of constructing seven homes with only the concrete block foundations being provided. The students were responsible for framing, sheathing, siding, and roofing before being considered complete. ISU AGC spent a total of eight days in Jonesborough over a course of two service trips that involved 67 volunteers to build seven homes and volunteered a total of 3,492 service hours. Sponsoring chapters: AGC of Iowa and Master Builders of Iowa. Second Place: Texas A&M The Student Chapter won $750 for their involvement with the Habitat for Humanity, a non- profit organization that helps provide safe, affordable home ownership to under-served populations.  The Student Chapter’s involvement with program was two-fold: they contributed monetarily through proceeds from an annual golf tournament fundraiser; and Student Chapter members were given the opportunity help build the new home. Sponsoring chapter: Houston Chapter-AGC. The 2014 contest will begin accepting applications in the Spring. Keep an eye out for information and an application.
