AGC Member and Partner Win CURT Workforce Development Awards

AGC of America would like to congratulate our craft training partner, NCCER, and member WRTP/BIG STEP of Milwaukee on receiving 2013 Workforce Development Awards from the Construction Users Roundtable (CURT). The awards were announced during CURT’s annual conference, held Nov. 11-13 in Tucson, Ariz. NCCER’s National Craft Assessment & Certification Program (NCACP) assesses the journey-level competence and skills of craft professionals based on industry developed and accepted standards for each craft through both written and performance assessments. NCCER credentials allow craft professionals to confirm their training in their specified craft. These credentials actually take this declaration a step further by recording successful completion of performance tasks and verifications along with confirmation of written knowledge. Through the NCCER online verification system, contractors can verify the qualifications of potential employees and provide upgrade training in the specific areas of need. The mission of WRTP/BIG STEP, Inc. is to enhance the ability of public and private organizations to recruit and develop a diverse, qualified workforce in the construction and other sectors of the Milwaukee region’s economy. The group engages in workforce development recruitment and training to build a strong local construction workforce and place individuals on career pathways with family-supporting jobs. These objectives are accomplished by pre-apprenticeship recruitment, assessment, training, career counseling, placement and retention services provided at no cost to the regional workforce. AGC of Greater Milwaukee is a founding partner in this effort. The 2014 Workforce Development Awards applications will open next June.
