Hardhats for Highways Campaign off to a Great Start

With the federal Highway Trust Fund projected to be unable to support any new highway, bridge or public transportation improvements in fiscal year 2015, the AGC co-chaired Transportation Construction Coalition (TCC) developed a new national grassroots campaign called “Hardhats for Highways.”  The campaign is designed to help educate Congress about the connection between local jobs and federal highway and transit investment. Since the launch of  “Hardhats for Highways”  last week in Las Vegas during CONEXPO/CONAGG, over 5000 “Hardhats for Highways” stickers have been requested.

Here’s How You Can help Make a Difference by Participating in Hardhats for Highways

To deliver the message to Congress, here are the steps you need to take to support this effort. Don’t wait. A 100 % effort from the industry is needed if we hope to get this done. Request a supply of decals. Fill them out listing the number of people your company employs. Affix the decal to several of your Company’s Hardhats. Call your two Senators’ and your Representative’s local office and set up appointments to meet with them or their staff. Visit www.HardhatsforHighways.org and copy and paste the Congressional letter onto your company’s letterhead. Bring the Hardhat and letter to the appointment and use the occasion to explain the impact on your business and employees if Federal highway and transit funding is cut. Take a picture and send it into the hardhats for highways website and fill in the jobs number so the website job tracker continues to grow. Use the information from www.HardhatsforHighways.org to include in your company newsletter and use the payroll stuffer to educate your employees about the impact on them if Congress doesn’t act. Urge your employees to visit www.HardhatsforHighways.org to send an ehardhat message to their Senators and representative. Provide computer access for your employees in the morning, at lunchtime and in the evening and urge them to take advantage of this opportunity to send email messages. Your Senators and Representatives will be working in their home states next week, it is the perfect opportunity to get involved in the “Hardhats for Highways” campaign.  Contact your members of Congress today to set up meetings with each office and educate them on the connection between local jobs and federal highway and transit investment
