If It’s Environment and Construction, It’s at AGC’s 2015 Conference

Check out the sessions in the compliance and sustainability tracks!

Plan to join your peers at AGC’s 2015 Contractors Environmental Conference (CEC) on September 2-3, in Arlington, Virginia to explore ways to turn environmental responsibilities into successes for you and your firm.  With separate tracks on compliance and sustainability, the 2015 CEC addresses the issues on your to-do list and gives you the opportunity to learn from each other, industry experts, and regulators.  Read more to check out the sessions in these tracks and to register.

Compliance Track Highlights

  • Next Generation of Compliance and Reporting Environmental Information – Keep abreast of recent developments to provide the public broad and easy access to company-specific environmental inspection and compliance data. Discuss new mandatory reporting requirements (e.g., NPDES eReporting rule) for construction operators. Consider the benefits of voluntarily disclosing violations using EPA’s audit policy.  Learn the steps to take if you receive a violation notice from EPA.
  • Stormwater: Self-Inspections and Documentation, Work in Sensitive Areas – Learn proven methods and pointers for site inspections and documentation, including maintenance and correcting common problems.  Hear real-world examples of some additional protections required for work in or near sensitive areas.
  • Factoring Endangered Species Into Your Project – Discuss emerging Endangered Species Act matters that may affect the timing and implementation of your projects.  Hear about developing issues related to new species’ listings, such as the northern long-eared bat, and possible regulatory changes to the designation of critical habitat and the scope of the Section 7 consultation on the potential for adverse modification of critical habitat.
  • What GCs Need to Know about Asbestos, Lead and PCBs – Identify sources of asbestos, lead and PCBs in your projects.  Hear from a remediation contractor what general contractors need to know about handling these materials/wastes and the liabilities associated with them.
  • Lessons Learned from Contractor's Pollution Liability Claims – Gain insight and learn from some of the most common claims.  Learn strategies for claims handling and reporting as well as mitigation strategies and best practices.  Session features an in-depth look at spills.
  • Federal Jurisdiction over Wet Areas and Tools Available to Help You Spot Them – Explore what a recent rule on waters of the U.S. (WOTUS) means for your construction projects.  Learn how to navigate the complexities of the rule and identify these waters.
  • EPA Regulatory Update - Stay abreast of emerging and/or changing regulatory issues, such as the new federal Multi-Sector General Permit for stormwater discharges.

Sustainability Track Highlights

  • A Behind the Scenes Look at the New Safety Pilot Credit for LEED – Meet one of LEED’s newest pilot credits.  Delve deeper than a brief introduction to the requirements and understand the motivation and process behind its development.
  • Introduction and Roundtable Discussion on Environmental Product Declarations for Green Buildings – Hear a short primer on EPDs and life cycle assessments followed by a moderated discussion with your peers to discuss how EPDs will impact choices made during the green building process.
  • The Alignment of the IgCC and ASHRAE/ICC/IES/USGBC Standard 189.1 – Learn about ongoing efforts to align these two green building codes and standards.  Explore what the resultant green building threshold may include.
