GBCA CLC Gives Back to the Community

The General Building Contractors Association (GBCA) Construction Leadership Council (CLC) made a huge effort to give back to Philadelphians in need during the 2019 holiday season.

On Tuesday, December 3, 2019, the CLC Steering Committee and the Eastern Atlantic States Regional Council of Carpenters (EAS Carpenters) visited the Campout for Hunger, a local radio station’s week-long event that collects food for Philabundance, a hunger relief charity serving the Philadelphia Region. Philabundance serves over 90,000 low-income Philadelphians.

In addition to helping unload canned good donations in the GBCA-sponsored “GBCA Demolish Hunger Donation Tent,” the CLC and EAS Carpenters were interviewed live on the radio. They announced their combined donation of an estimated 160,000 lbs of food. After the final weighing, it turned out the CLC and EAS Carpenters donated 175,164 pounds of food—the 2nd largest donation for 2020!

On December 4th the CLC held its annual holiday toy drive during GBCA’s Holiday Party. GBCA members truly got into the holiday spirit and demonstrated their generosity, donating over 300 toys! The following week, the CLC Steering Committee delivered the toys to Northern Children’s Services, a non-profit organization supporting the healthy development of children by stabilizing their distressed families.

Giving back to the community is a high priority for GBCA’s CLC. The CLC looks forward to giving to these two organizations in 2020!
