AGC Charities Inc.’s Annual Operation Opening Doors Project Involved Renovating Three Cedar Crest Homes Belonging to Elderly, Disabled Residents in Support of Rebuilding Together North Texas
DALLAS, TEXAS. – AGC Charities Inc. and Plano-based Hilti North America and Hill & Wilkinson teamed up to lead dozens of volunteers to make repairs today to three South Dallas homes in partnership with Rebuilding Together North Texas. The volunteer workday at the three Cedar Crest homes is a part of the AGC Charities’ annual Operation Opening Doors project.
“Contractors understand they are only as successful as their communities are strong,” said Thomas Brown, the chairman of AGC Charities Inc. “The improvements we are making today will provide safer, healthier and more comfortable homes for a few deserving local residents in the community hosting our convention.”
The volunteers who participated in today’s charity project are all members of the Associated General Contractors of America, the national commercial construction trade association. Many of the volunteers arrived early into the area to participate in the project prior to attending the association’s annual convention, which is taking place at the Gaylord Texas between March 28 and 31.
The volunteers helped install and stain new fences, install and paint new exterior wall siding, install grab rails, build new exterior stairs, improve landscaping and renovate bathrooms. They focused on three Cedar Crest homes, all owned by aging, disabled residents. The project was organized to support Rebuilding Together North Texas, which helps rehabilitate homes for aging, disabled or veteran residents.
Hilti North America served as the signature sponsor of the volunteer project. The firm provided significant support for the project, including donations to help cover the cost of project materials. The firm also donated its tools for the project as well as significant logistical and promotional support.
Hill & Wilkinson oversaw all the construction planning and preparation, conducted extensive preparation work at all three houses prior to today’s volunteer effort and donated the services of several key staff to train and coordinate the volunteer workers. The firm also worked to line up a broad range of donated and discounted services to support the project from members of the association’s TEXO Association chapter.
Those firms include Ace Décor and Finishes, Inc.; Brightview Landscape Development; Business Flooring Specialists; Cambridge Fence Services; Dallas Metal Fabricators; Greyhawk Services; Hatfield Acoustical & Drywall; Highland Specialty Services; Jagoe Public Co.; Keeland & Company Painting; LASCO; Pillar Electric Group; SB Ironworks; SPSD; Sunbelt Waterproofing & Restoration; Sterling Roof Systems; Texas Building Specialties; Tri-Phase Interiors and United Mechanical.
“We are grateful to be a part of this project. Big thanks to all of our trade partners and internal team members who donated their time to make this project a success,” said Hayden Harrison, senior project manager at Hill & Wilkinson, who oversaw the project.
