The Department of Labor (DOL) is restructuring Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA) regional operations to enhance worker protection and agency resilience. Key changes include:
- A new regional office in Birmingham, Alabama, covering Alabama, Arkansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, Tennessee, and the Florida Panhandle. This office will address the region's growing workforce and hazardous industries.
- Regions 9 and 10 will merge into the new San Francisco Region to streamline operations and cut costs.
- Regions will be renamed based on geography. For example, Region 4 will become the Atlanta Region, overseeing most of Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, and South Carolina, while Region 6 will be renamed the Dallas Region, covering New Mexico, Oklahoma, and Texas. Other regions will be renamed accordingly, such as the Boston, New York City, Philadelphia, Chicago, Kansas City, and Denver Regions.
These changes aim to better align OSHA with current demographic and industrial landscapes and are expected to be fully implemented by the end of fiscal year 2024.
