Due to popular demand, AGC has added an additional program to be held September 28-October 3 in Potomac, MD. AGC's Construction Project Manager Course (PMC) participants experience an interactive program that explores the critical areas of project management that seasoned project managers tackle on a daily basis. The course's curriculum builds on itself throughout the week, starting with the impact planning has on the overall project and moving on to cover scheduling, productivity and subcontractor/vendor management as well as legal issues and contract clauses, record-keeping and much more.
AGC of America’s Chief Economist, Ken Simonson, and Phil Washington, general manager of Denver's Regional Transportation District helped to launch a new workforce initiative program in Denver.
AGC of America is pleased to announce that over four hundred individuals have earned the Certificate of Management—Building Information Modeling (CM-BIM). Professionals located all over the nation have traveled to the 19 test centers to take their exam that earns them the professional accreditation, the Certificate of Management-Building Information Modeling (CM-BIM).
AGC is pleased to announce that Warren Kiesel joined the AGC Training, Education and Development (TED) Department as Director of Curriculum Development on May 22. Warren has nineteen years of experience in curriculum design, development and evaluation, most recently with the American Red Cross.
Each year the winners of the Outstanding Student Chapters Contest are invited to share their winning project at the AGC Annual Convention. This year, twelve of ISU AGC’s fourteen cabinets, were able to attend the Convention, where they shared details about their Operation Dry Creek Road project in Jonesborough, Tenn. that won them first place. After a flood demolished multiple homes in the area, the ISU students rebuilt seven of the destroyed homes. They were provided only the concrete block foundations. The students were responsible for framing, sheathing, siding, and roofing before being considered complete.

Once again, HR and Training Professionals in the Construction Industry will come together in October for AGC’s Construction HR and Training Professionals Conference. The Conference will take place Oct. 15-17 in Phoenix, Ariz. at the Sheraton Phoenix Downtown. Information about the event is located on the AGC website. Registration will open in the Spring.
Last month, AGC released a new Workforce Development Plan. This plan outlines a series of measures AGC is urging national, state and local officials to adopt to make it easier for school districts, construction firms and chapters to establish training programs to help prepare future construction workers.
Applications are currently being accepted for the AGC Outstanding Student Chapter Contest, designed to recognize and reward AGC Student Chapters for their dedication to community and public service projects. All AGC Student Chapters are encouraged to submit an application to showcase their work in the community during the 2013-14 academic year. There is no cost to apply, however we do ask that all submissions be submitted using  PDF - applications that do not use this form will not be considered.
On February 10, First Lady Michele Obama announced at a U.S. Department of Labor event that “the construction industry has pledged to hire 100,000 veterans” during the next five years.  During the event, she noted that 100 construction companies have pledged to increase their hiring and cited the broader efforts of many firms and associations in hiring veterans, including the Associated General Contractors of America.  She added that this is the first time a single industry has made such a pledge.
